Everything feels so fresh and new \u2013 anything seems possible. Why not put a little of that great fresh energy to use and do a little spring cleaning?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It happens to all of us through the fall and winter, and into the holidays \u2013 we gather. We not only gather with friends and family, we gather stuff. New toys, new electronics, new clothing \u2013 new stuff. But, we\u2019re busy and don\u2019t always have the time to deal with the things that have been replaced. So we also gather bits and pieces of old stuff in the backs of closets &amp; cupboards, in storage rooms, in garages and in other tucked away areas and piles until\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now \u2013 it\u2019s the perfect time to give your home, your castle, a clean sweep! Whether you take it all in one shot or chip away over a period of time, the feeling of freeing up space is, well, freeing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check out our handy checklist to help you with this liberating task. Choose to either recycle it, get it fixed, or donate it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If some of your electronics are outdated but still working (and you have replaced it &#8211; e.g. cell phone), perhaps donate it to a charity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Free geek <span style=\"color: #339966;\"><a style=\"color: #339966;\" href=\"https:\/\/reusetechbc.ca\/donate\">BC Technology for Learning Society<\/a><\/span>\u00a0is a place where you can donate old computer parts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All our Regional Recycling Bottle Depots take all electronics for recycling.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Appliances:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We expect our appliances to perform whenever we need them, but sometimes their care can be neglected. Each spring take the time to inspect your major appliances for wear and tear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list custom-list\">\n<li>The coils of the refrigerator should be vacuumed, and the drain pan should be cleaned out.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Accumulated lint needs to be cleaned from the dryer vents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean out accumulated gunk from your oven and refrigerator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean dishwashers, disposals, and washing machines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regional Recycling depots will take most appliances (check location pages for what each location takes).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clothing &amp; Shoes:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When warmer spring weather arrives, it&#8217;s time to pack away sweaters, coats, and other cold weather clothing. Storing seasonal clothing is easy to do safely if you follow a few simple rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list custom-list\">\n<li>Make sure that the storage containers and areas are clean, cool, dark, and dry. This will keep clothing in good shape for next winter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can donate gently worn business clothes to <a style=\"color: #00a651!important;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dressforsuccess.ca\/\"><u>www.dressforsuccess.ca<\/u><\/a> and <a style=\"color: #00a651!important;\" href=\"https:\/\/regionalrecycling.ca\/blog\/www.workinggear.ca\"><u>www.workinggear.ca.<\/u><\/a> Your donations support people as they get a fresh start by helping them make a positive first impression at their next job interview.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clothing Donation Bins \u2013 All Regional Recycling locations have bins to collect clothing for Big Brothers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Books, Newspapers and Magazines:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How is the current state of your bookshelf or magazine pile? Is the pile of \u201cI\u2019m going to read that this weekend\u201d getting higher and higher? If it is, it\u2019s time to create a donation pile. Be vigilant and give it away or swap it with friends who share your literary taste. While we do not recycle newspapers and magazines at Regional Recycling, here are some ideas for you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list custom-list\">\n<li>Libraries are often happy to take well-treated books, as are some schools and care homes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Donate magazines to businesses that have a large number of people waiting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RECYCLE other magazines and newspapers in your Blue Box.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Note &#8211; Regional Recycling depots do not recycle paper or cardboard.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Office\/School Supplies:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you spend time trying to locate a pen whenever you need to take notes during a call? It\u2019s a sign you need to go on an office supply shopping trip or it\u2019s time to organize your current office supplies into an accessible system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list custom-list\">\n<li>Make it super easy to find pens, tape, stickies, and notepads to write notes and take messages.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a system for your mail and receipts, and promptly file them away so you don\u2019t waste time reading the same thing twice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Old media and orphan cords. Use our handy (free) small electronics recycling box* to collect all of these items and bring them into REGIONAL RECYCLING.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Furniture:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list custom-list\">\n<li>Is it time to repair or replace anything?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you need to reupholster or get it professionally cleaned?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is it time to bring it to Salvation Army? The garage is a wonderful place to accumulate those often ignored items.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take one section at a time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using the \u201ctouch it once\u201d rule, sort items by categories above &#8211; donate, recycle or toss. (My own personal rule \u2013 if it hasn\u2019t moved in 1 year, then perhaps I don\u2019t need it any more.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scrap metal hiding in there? While we won\u2019t recycle your car, Regional Recycling does pay for scrap metal! <a style=\"color: #00a651!important;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.regionalrecycling.ca\/scrap-metal-recycling\/\"><u>Learn if your scrap is worth something here.<\/u><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We hope you have fun with your spring cleaning!
